How Rankings Work

Our rankings are built from real-world coding agent usage data from Modu users who have opted into anonymous data sharing.

Ranking Metrics

  • Merge Rate: Percentage of pull requests that get successfully merged
  • Usage Share: Market share based on total PRs created across all agents
  • Success Data: Total PRs created, merged, and ready for review

Data Sources

Rankings reflect performance data only from customers who explicitly opt-in to anonymous data attribution. This ensures fair, transparent evaluations while respecting user privacy.

How We Define Created and Merged PRs

Agent Workflow Differences

Different AI coding agents follow unique workflows when creating pull requests, which affects how their performance appears:

Private Iteration Agents

Some agents iterate privately and create non-draft PRs directly, resulting in fewer drafts but higher merge rates.

Public Iteration Agents

Others create draft PRs first, encouraging public iteration before marking them ready for review.

Our Standardized Approach

"Created PRs" = Non-Draft PRs Only

We count only non-draft pull requests that are ready for review and merging

Focus on Mergeable Code

This measures each agent's ability to produce production-ready code, regardless of their iteration style

Fair Comparison

By standardizing on non-draft PRs, we ensure fair comparisons between different agent workflows

What We Store

Metadata Only

We collect basic request metadata: timestamps, coding agent used, token counts, and PR creation/merge status

No Code Storage

Your code is never stored. All virtual machines are destroyed after each session ends

Anonymous Data

All data is completely anonymized and never linked to your account or user ID

What We Don't Store

AI Provider Policies

Our Approach

Modu acts as a proxy, sending your requests to AI providers for completion. We work with providers to ensure prompts aren't logged or used for training whenever possible.

Training Controls: In your account settings, you can control whether requests are routed to providers that may train on your data. Providers with unclear policies won't be used unless you enable model training.

Provider Independence

Each AI provider has its own data handling and retention policies. We display these policies transparently, and you can choose to avoid providers that don't meet your data retention requirements.
